109. I rest in God. 110. I am as God created me.
I can turn rest into another task I am failing to complete.
I lie down, notice that my mind is still active, and decide I am doing rest incorrectly. I should be calmer. I should trust more. I should have learned by now how to stop carrying everything into the night.
The pressure to rest becomes one more thing keeping me awake.
These review ideas offer a gentler foundation. I rest in God, and I am as God created me.
Rest does not have to be a state I manufacture. It can begin with remembering that the deepest truth about me remains intact while my thoughts are unsettled.
I recently had a night when my mind moved from one concern to another as though it had been assigned the overnight shift. I tried breathing slowly, changing positions, and reasoning with every worry.
Nothing worked for long.
Eventually, I stopped trying to become the peaceful version of myself I thought God would prefer. I admitted that I was frightened and tired, and that I did not know how to settle myself.
That honesty felt more restful than all my efforts.
God was not waiting for me to reach the correct emotional state. I was already held while anxious. I remained as God created me while rehearsing tomorrow, checking the clock, and wishing I were doing better.
The mind may need time to become quiet. The body may need practical care. Rest can include getting up, writing something down, taking medication, asking for help, or simply allowing wakefulness to be present without turning it into a spiritual failure.
What rests in God is deeper than the part of me monitoring whether rest has arrived.
Today I want to release the demand that peace prove itself through a particular feeling.
I may still feel unsettled.
But I do not have to add the exhausting belief that anxiety has changed what God created.
