Review of Lessons 127–128

127. There is no love but God’s. 128. The world I see holds nothing that I want.

I can enjoy something in the world and still quietly ask it to save me.

A relationship, a home, a job, or a healthy body can become more than something I value. It becomes the condition that must remain intact for me to believe love is present.

These review ideas do not ask me to stop loving people or appreciating the forms that make life beautiful.

They ask me to remember the source.

There is no love but God’s, and the world I see holds nothing that I want.

The world can reflect love. It cannot contain or control it.

I think of how easily a long-awaited trip can become charged with expectation. I have spent money, rearranged schedules, and imagined the experience for months. Once it begins, I can become determined to make every hour count.

Rain, fatigue, or a disappointing meal then feels larger than it is. I am not only experiencing an inconvenience. I am watching the meaningful trip I planned become less perfect.

But perhaps the itinerary was never responsible for creating the joy.

Love remains present when we change the plan, laugh at what went wrong, or let someone rest without treating their tiredness as a threat to the experience.

If I ask the trip to prove that life is good, I will monitor it instead of living it.

I can become so focused on preserving the memory that I am barely present while it is being made.

Today I want to notice the form I have made responsible for carrying all the meaning.

The world’s forms are precious partly because they are temporary.

I can care for them, grieve them, and delight in them without making God’s Love as fragile as they are.

The form may hold an expression of what I want.

The source of it remains beyond loss.
