Stepping back is difficult when I have already decided where the way should lead.
I ask for guidance, but often with a preferred answer tucked inside the question. I want God to lead me toward the outcome I have selected and help me feel peaceful while we get there.
This lesson asks for a more honest surrender.
I will step back and let Him lead the way.
That does not mean becoming passive or refusing to make decisions. It means releasing the belief that guidance must confirm my plan in order to be trustworthy.
I once kept trying to guide a relationship toward a conversation I believed would repair it. I adjusted my wording, waited for a better moment, and imagined the explanation that would finally help us understand each other.
The desire for repair was sincere.
But I had quietly decided that healing had to look like renewed closeness.
When I finally stepped back, the answer was not a more persuasive conversation. It was to stop trying to produce readiness in someone else.
I could remain open to repair without making it the only form peace was allowed to take.
Letting God lead may take me through a form I would not have chosen: disappointment, waiting, a changed plan, or the admission that I cannot continue carrying something.
The direction is recognizable by its purpose.
It may be uncomfortable, but it does not require self-betrayal, condemnation, or control of everyone involved.
Today I want to notice where I am asking for guidance while gripping the destination.
Stepping back may last only one breath.
In that breath, I can stop arranging the whole path and become willing to see the next honest step.
