I have needed my body to do many things.

Carry me through the day. Heal on schedule. Look familiar enough that I can recognize myself. Provide reassurance that nothing is wrong.

When it cannot meet those expectations, freedom can feel like the last word I would use.

This lesson does not ask me to neglect the body or deny its experience. Bodies need food, rest, medicine, movement, protection, and care.

It asks me not to make the body the boundary of what I am.

I remember looking at a physical change that would not be reversed. Part of me kept comparing the body I had with the one I remembered, as though freedom belonged only to the earlier version.

The change mattered. It affected what I could do and how I moved through the world.

But it had not altered the awareness looking through my eyes. It had not reduced my capacity to love, choose, laugh, create, or belong to God.

I am not a body does not mean the body is meaningless.

It means the body cannot contain my whole meaning.

Today I want to care for the body without asking it to establish my identity.

I can honor pain, adaptation, and grief.

None of them has the authority to redefine what God created.
