Happiness can be difficult to notice when I believe it must be complete.
If one concern remains, I decide the day is not peaceful. If grief is present, happiness can feel disloyal or impossible.
I remember drinking coffee outside on a beautiful morning while worrying about someone I loved. The concern was real, and part of my mind kept insisting that enjoying the morning meant I was not taking it seriously enough.
I almost missed what was also true.
The air was cool. The coffee was warm. A bird kept returning to the same branch. For those few minutes, life was offering something gentle without asking me to stop caring.
Present happiness does not deny the difficulty surrounding it.
It is the part of experience fear considers irrelevant because it does not support the story that peace must wait.
Today I want to notice what is quietly okay without using it to argue against what hurts.
It may be small: enough energy for the next task, a kind exchange, sunlight on the floor, or one breath that arrives without effort.
Happiness does not have to occupy the whole day to be wholly present now.
