The gift of Christ is all I seek today

I seek many things without noticing what I believe they will give me.

A completed project promises relief. Recognition promises worth. A certain response from someone promises that the relationship is secure.

The object changes, but the deeper request is often the same: let this prove that I am safe and loved.

I remember completing a professional credential I had worked toward for months. I imagined that once it was official, I would finally feel qualified and stop questioning whether I belonged in the work.

The certificate arrived. I felt proud, framed it, and then noticed the old uncertainty returning within days.

The achievement had given me knowledge and opened practical possibilities. It could not permanently settle an identity I was still asking the world to confirm.

The gift of Christ is the recognition that my worth is shared, whole, and already established by God. Nothing outside me can manufacture it, and nothing outside me can reduce it.

Seeking that gift does not mean I stop enjoying encouragement or caring about results. It means I stop asking them to perform a spiritual function they cannot fulfill.

Today I want to look beneath what I am pursuing.

If the answer is that I matter, belong, or am enough, I can bring that request directly to Christ.

The result may still matter in practical ways.

But it no longer has to carry the weight of my identity.

The gift I seek is not proof that my separate self has succeeded.

It is release from the belief that I was ever separate enough to need proving.
