My meaningless thoughts are showing me a meaningless world. I am upset because I see a meaningless world. A meaningless world engenders fear. God did not create a meaningless world. My thoughts are images that I have made.

My mind dislikes an empty space.

If I do not know why someone is quiet, what a test result will show, or how a situation will end, I usually begin supplying possibilities. Fear is fast, imaginative, and always available for this kind of work. Soon I am not facing uncertainty anymore. I am facing a vivid mental picture of what uncertainty might become.

These review lessons trace that process. My thoughts create images, the images become a world, and then I become frightened by the world I made. Because the picture feels real, I assume the fear proves it must be true.

I have done this while waiting for medical information, watching someone I love struggle, and wondering whether a relationship was changing. The mind fills what it does not know with what it most wants to prevent. The result feels like preparation. If I imagine the worst thoroughly enough, perhaps I will be less surprised if it happens.

I have never found much peace in that strategy.

What I appreciate about this review is the reminder that God did not create the meaningless world fear is showing me. God did not create a future in which I am abandoned, stripped of worth, and left entirely alone with whatever happens. My mind may create that image, but God is not hiding inside it waiting to make it real.

The circumstances themselves may still be uncertain. This is not an argument that every outcome will be pleasant. It is a distinction between what might happen and the spiritual meaning fear has attached to it.

A diagnosis does not mean God has left. A relationship ending does not prove I am unlovable. Not knowing what comes next does not mean I am unsafe in the deepest sense.

Fear shows me an image in which the difficult thing becomes the whole world. Love restores everything the image cropped out: the support that may arrive, the strength I do not yet need, and the fact that my life is larger than this one outcome.

I do not have to replace the frightening picture with a cheerful fantasy. I can return to the information I actually possess and allow the future to remain unwritten.
