There are many things I cannot decide.

I cannot decide how another person will respond, whether a body will remain healthy, or which unexpected event will alter the plan I carefully made.

This lesson does not give me control over those things.

It returns the decision I keep giving them.

I decide what the circumstance will be allowed to establish about my worth, safety, and connection to God.

That power can feel small beside a serious problem. If the outcome remains unchanged, what difference does my interpretation make?

It makes the difference between responding to the problem and becoming the identity fear assigns within it.

I remember arriving at an airport with a carefully planned trip and watching the flight disappear from the board.

Weather elsewhere had changed what would happen to us. I could not decide whether another flight would open, how long the delay would last, or whether the trip would keep its original shape.

But I could decide whether the disruption would become proof that the whole experience was ruined.

That choice did not make me instantly cheerful. It helped me ask the next useful question, find something to eat, and speak kindly to the person at the counter who had not created the storm.

Each decision returned part of the day to me before the itinerary returned anything at all.

The power of decision does not mean I should blame myself for every fearful reaction. Nervous systems respond before conscious choice enters the room.

My power begins when I notice.

I can seek support, take practical action, and choose again after fear has already spoken.

Today I want to distinguish control from decision.

I may not decide what happens next.

I decide whether what happens next will be permitted to tell me that I am separated from Love.
