Defenselessness can sound unsafe if I confuse it with having no boundaries.
There are situations where safety requires distance, documentation, locks, help, or a clear refusal. This lesson does not ask me to make myself physically available to harm.
It asks me to release the inner defense built around an identity that can be destroyed by another person’s judgment.
I notice that defense when I prepare explanations before anyone questions me.
I anticipate what someone might misunderstand and add so much context that the simple truth nearly disappears. I am not only communicating. I am trying to close every possible opening through which criticism could enter.
The defense makes me feel less safe.
It teaches me that my worth depends on controlling another person’s interpretation.
I once sent a message and immediately began imagining how it could be taken incorrectly. I considered following up with another paragraph to clarify a problem that had not happened.
The urge felt responsible.
In reality, I was defending myself from a conversation that existed only in my mind.
Defenselessness meant allowing the message to stand. If clarification became necessary, I could offer it then.
My safety did not depend on preventing every misunderstanding in advance.
This kind of safety is not certainty that no one will criticize or misread me. It is the recognition that their interpretation cannot alter what God created.
Today I want to notice the defense I am building against a possibility rather than a present need.
I can still correct misinformation and protect what matters.
But I do not need to surround the truth with fear in order to keep it safe.
