There is no death. The Son of God is free

This lesson can sound almost impossible beside actual loss.

A person dies, and their chair is empty. Their number remains in the phone, but there will be no new message. The body is gone, and every spiritual idea has to stand beside that fact without pretending it does not hurt.

“There is no death” should never be used to hurry grief.

The Course is not asking me to deny the human experience of absence. It is asking whether absence has the power to destroy life itself.

I tend to think of life as belonging to the body. When the body ends, I assume the person has been reduced to memory.

Yet even while someone is alive, the deepest part of my connection with them is not physical. Love is known through form, but it is not created by form.

This does not make the form unimportant. I miss the voice, the expression, the ordinary ability to ask a question and receive an answer. Grief is love encountering a shape it can no longer use.

Perhaps the lesson asks me not to confuse that changed shape with the destruction of what was loved.

The Son of God is free because life cannot be imprisoned in a body, a diagnosis, or a span of years. What God created does not become nothing when the evidence available to my senses changes.

I do not always feel certain of this. Some days, the visible world is far more convincing than eternity.

I can still become willing to leave the question open to God.

Today I want to let grief be honest without making it the authority on whether life continues.

I may cry, remember, ache, and wish the body were still here.

None of that contradicts the lesson.

Love does not ask me to call the loss small. It asks me not to call what God created gone.
