I am more comfortable receiving grace after I have made a sincere effort.

I want to show that I learned the lesson, took responsibility, and spent an appropriate amount of time regretting what I did. Then grace can arrive without appearing to let me off too easily.

This lesson does not say grace will be given when I qualify.

It is given now.

Claiming grace is not avoiding responsibility. It is refusing to make punishment the proof that I care.

I have held onto guilt because releasing it felt disrespectful to the person I hurt. If I became peaceful too quickly, perhaps that would mean the mistake did not matter.

But guilt kept my attention on the condition of *me*—how bad I felt, whether I was forgivable, what the mistake said about my character.

Grace made room to focus on what love required next.

I could apologize without asking the other person to rescue me from shame. I could repair what was possible and accept that they might need time. I could learn without turning the lesson into a permanent sentence.

Grace is also given when I have done nothing wrong and am simply struggling. I do not need to prove that the pain is serious enough, the exhaustion is legitimate, or my prayer has been consistent.

The gift is not awarded by a committee reviewing how well I endured.

Today I want to notice where I keep postponing what God has already given.

Perhaps I would stop rehearsing the case against myself. Perhaps I would accept help, rest without defending the need, or choose again without first making an identity out of the old choice.

Grace does not tell me that nothing matters.

It tells me that no mistake, weakness, or unfinished healing has placed me outside the reach of Love.

I do not have to earn my way back into what I never left.
