I sometimes live as though everything essential depends on my ability to hold it together.
I make the plans, remember the details, anticipate the problems, and try to respond to each person in the way least likely to disappoint them.
When life goes well, I quietly credit the effort. When something falls apart, I search for where I failed to manage it.
Grace offers a different explanation for my life.
By grace I live.
My existence is not a performance I successfully maintain. The love that sustains me was present before I completed anything useful, and it remains when my plans fail, my energy changes, or I cannot be who someone hoped I would be.
By grace I am released.
Released does not mean removed from responsibility. It means freed from the impossible responsibility of making myself worthy, safe, and whole through perfect management.
I have felt this release after finally admitting that I could not solve a situation for someone I loved. I had offered what I could, but part of me kept searching for the sentence or action that would guarantee their peace.
Grace allowed me to remain loving without pretending to be the source of their healing.
The problem did not instantly disappear. The burden of playing God within it began to loosen.
That is often how release arrives—not as a dramatic escape, but as the moment I stop carrying a job that was never mine.
Today I want to notice what I am maintaining because I believe grace cannot be trusted to hold it.
There may still be a call to make, a task to finish, or a person who needs my honest presence.
I can meet those responsibilities without making them responsible for me.
Grace is not the reward waiting after I have carried everything correctly.
It is what carries me while I learn how little fear was ever qualified to hold.
