Peace does not always feel like light.
Sometimes it is barely noticeable beneath fatigue, sadness, or a mind that will not stop solving tomorrow.
This lesson says peace is shining in me now—not after I feel peaceful.
That changes peace from an emotion I must create into a presence I can uncover.
I once woke in the middle of the night with my mind already solving a problem that could not be addressed until morning.
I could hear the furnace begin, a dog shifting on the floor, and the ordinary quiet of a house in which nothing was being asked of me at that hour.
My impulse was to use the silence for more thinking.
Instead, I listened to what was actually present.
The peace did not arrive as reassurance about the problem. It appeared as the small willingness to let three o’clock be three o’clock instead of an early meeting with tomorrow.
That willingness had been shining underneath the mental noise all along.
God’s peace is not defeated by emotion. It gives emotion somewhere safe to move.
Today I want to stop measuring peace by whether my surface feels calm.
Perhaps I can breathe without rushing, tell the truth about what I need, or allow one unanswered question to remain unanswered until morning.
The problem may still be here.
I do not need to call it the absence of peace.
