Love for God can feel abstract when I expect it to arrive as a powerful spiritual emotion.

I may wait for awe, certainty, or a sense of devotion strong enough to silence every doubt. Ordinary affection does not seem important enough.

But perhaps love for God is often expressed through what I turn toward.

I turn toward honesty when a convenient explanation would protect my image. I become willing to forgive when resentment still feels justified. I sit quietly for one minute because some part of me remembers that fear is not the only voice available.

These choices may not feel like worship. They are movements toward the Love that created me.

I once stood outside at the end of a difficult day and noticed the sky changing color. Nothing in my circumstances had been resolved. Still, I felt grateful that beauty had not required the day to go well before appearing.

The gratitude was small and unforced.

Maybe that was love answering Love.

God does not need an impressive display from me. A child’s love may be uncertain, distracted, and repeatedly forgotten without ceasing to belong to the relationship.

Today I want to notice the quiet ways I already turn toward God.

I do not have to manufacture devotion.

I can receive what is true and allow gratitude, honesty, or willingness to respond.

His Son loves Him because love recognizes its Source, even through the smallest opening.
