My mind begins many days with a collection of competing intentions.

I want to be productive, helpful, prepared, calm, and liked. By breakfast, I may already be measuring whether the day is cooperating.

This lesson gives me one intention beneath all the others: to remember God.

Remembering does not require withdrawing from ordinary responsibilities. It changes what I ask them to provide.

I can work without asking achievement to tell me who I am. I can care for someone without making their response the measure of my love. I can prepare without pretending preparation controls the future.

I once wrote a short reminder on a scrap of paper and left it beside my computer: “What is this for?” Each time I saw it, I recognized how easily a simple task had become a referendum on my worth.

Remembering God returned the task to its proper size.

Today I do not need ten spiritual goals.

The answer may still involve sending the email, doing the work, or making the call.

But I can do it while remembering that no outcome creates or removes His Love.

Everything else I want is easier to hold when it is no longer being asked to save me.

Father, let remembering You become the quiet purpose inside whatever today contains.
