On my decision all salvation rests

This lesson can sound like an unbearable amount of responsibility.

Surely salvation should not depend on whether I manage to make the right choice during an ordinary, distracted day.

But the decision is not about controlling the world. It is about choosing which interpretation of the world I will strengthen.

I once stood in a checkout line while someone argued with the cashier. Irritation spread quickly through everyone waiting. I could feel myself joining the silent agreement that this person was the problem in the room.

Then I noticed the cashier’s face.

My decision was small: I could add another layer of hostility, even privately, or refuse to let condemnation be my contribution.

I did not solve the conflict. I simply greeted the cashier kindly when my turn came and left without carrying the stranger into the rest of my afternoon.

Salvation rests on decisions like this because peace enters the world through individual minds willing to stop reproducing attack.

Today I want to notice the moment I believe is too small to matter.

I am not responsible for everyone’s decision.

I am responsible for the teacher I invite into mine.

That is not a crushing burden. It is the quiet dignity of discovering that my willingness has real effect.
