I often search for evidence of safety before allowing myself to feel peaceful.

The door is locked. The result is reassuring. Everyone I love has arrived home. For a moment, the mind stops scanning.

Then it finds something else.

Conditions can support safety, but they cannot provide the permanent assurance fear demands.

I once left home for several days and discovered how easy it was to turn a doorbell camera into an anxiety ritual. I had locked the doors, arranged for what needed care, and taken every reasonable step.

Still, I opened the app whenever a notification appeared. Then I began checking when no notification had appeared.

The camera could show me one small frame of the property. Fear kept pretending it could show me whether everything was truly safe.

Nothing I saw produced lasting certainty. Each check simply trained the mind to request another one.

God’s peace had been with me before I opened the app and remained after I closed it.

This does not mean security measures are unnecessary. Love may ask for locks, alerts, or practical help. The question is whether the action serves safety or feeds the belief that constant monitoring can eliminate uncertainty.

Today I want to notice what I am monitoring in exchange for peace.

Safety is not the promise that nothing difficult will happen.

It is the recognition that no event can remove me or anyone I love from God’s care.

His peace is with me before the answer arrives.
