When I am hurting, this lesson can sound as though it is asking me to disown the experience.
I do not want spiritual truth used to argue that grief, pain, or fear is unreal and therefore unworthy of care.
Perhaps the lesson offers something gentler.
Suffering is something I experience, but it is not the substance of what God created.
I remember sitting in a waiting room where everyone seemed to carry a private uncertainty. My body was tense, and my mind kept moving toward outcomes I did not want.
For a moment, suffering felt like the most accurate description of who I was.
Then I noticed the part of me that could observe the fear without becoming identical to it.
The fear did not disappear. A little space appeared around it.
That space matters.
If suffering is what I am, there is nowhere from which to meet it. If it is an experience moving through awareness, I can care for the experience without surrendering my whole identity.
Today I want to change one sentence.
Instead of “I am broken,” perhaps I can say, “Something in me is hurting.”
I may still need comfort, treatment, time, or another person beside me.
The lesson does not remove those needs.
It reminds me that the self receiving care remains more whole than suffering can report.
