I have many goals for a typical day.
Finish the work. Make the appointment. Help the person. Solve the problem. Get through the evening with enough energy left to feel like myself.
This lesson does not require abandoning those goals.
It asks what they are ultimately for.
I once completed nearly everything on a demanding list and still ended the day feeling unsettled. The tasks had been accomplished, but each one had carried a hidden purpose: prove that I was capable, responsible, and not falling behind.
The list could not confirm those things permanently.
God as my only goal means remembering Love within every smaller aim.
I can finish the work as an expression of care rather than a defense of my worth. I can attend the appointment without asking the result to tell me whether God is near. I can help someone without making myself necessary to them.
The form of the day may remain busy. Its direction becomes simpler.
Today I want to look beneath the next thing I am trying to accomplish.
I may still pursue the result with effort and attention.
But the result is no longer responsible for completing me.
God is the only goal because every true desire—for peace, belonging, meaning, and love—has always been a desire to remember what is already present in Him.
A PRIVATE REFLECTION
What is coming up for you?
Share what you are feeling, noticing, or struggling with. The companion will respond through the lens of this lesson—not as the final truth, but as another way of seeing.
Your words stay in this box until you choose “Reflect with me.” That sends them securely to OpenAI for this response. The Site does not save them. You can download the finished reflection if you want to keep it.
