Perfect peace can sound like an unrealistic plan for an ordinary day.

There will be interruptions, decisions, physical discomfort, and people whose moods do not coordinate with my spiritual intentions.

Perhaps perfect peace does not mean uninterrupted calm.

It means peace remains the purpose I return to whenever I notice I have chosen something else.

I remember preparing dinner when the power went out midway through the recipe. The kitchen went quiet, the oven stopped, and my mind immediately began objecting to the evening I was apparently going to have.

Then I noticed how thoroughly I was spending the outage on resistance.

The lights did not return when I chose peace. I simply stopped demanding that reality restore my plan before I could inhabit the next few minutes.

I found a flashlight, put the food that needed refrigeration away, and made something simple from what did not require electricity.

Peace became practical.

Choosing it did not require liking the disruption. It meant refusing to use the disruption as permission to attack the moment.

Today I will probably forget this choice.

Perfection belongs to the purpose, not my performance.

Each return is complete while it lasts.

This day may contain many invitations to choose again. That does not make it less peaceful.

It makes the day a practice in discovering that peace remains available from every point at which I remember.
