The mind notices differences automatically.
Age, appearance, politics, ability, income, education, and behavior help me organize people before I know them.
The lesson cannot mean that these differences do not exist at the level of human experience. Some differences shape access, risk, and responsibility in important ways.
Perhaps it asks me not to confuse difference with separation.
I remember arriving at an event and instinctively scanning for someone who seemed like me. I noticed who appeared comfortable, who seemed established, and where I might fit without feeling exposed.
In that search, every visible difference became evidence about belonging.
Then someone I would not have approached first began a conversation. Within minutes, the categories I had been consulting became less useful than the shared uncertainty we both admitted feeling.
We remained different people.
The difference no longer meant distance.
Holy perception does not flatten identity or ignore injustice. It recognizes one worth beneath the forms that require different kinds of care and understanding.
Today I want to notice the difference I am using to decide how much connection is possible.
I do not have to pretend we share every experience.
I can become curious without making sameness the price of love.
God’s Son appears in countless forms, none of which changes the Source we share.
