Some people reflect qualities I do not want associated with myself.
Their anger, carelessness, or certainty can feel like proof that we are fundamentally different.
This lesson says the Self God created abides in both of us.
That does not mean our behavior is interchangeable or that every relationship should be close.
I once listened to someone describe a decision I strongly disagreed with. As they spoke, I stopped hearing a person and began hearing a category.
The category was easier to judge because it had no childhood, fear, tenderness, or contradictions.
Remembering the holy Self did not change my disagreement.
It reminded me that I was speaking with someone whose deepest identity was no more contained by this decision than mine was contained by my reaction to it.
This recognition makes honesty cleaner. I can oppose an action without needing to erase the person. I can establish distance without using distance as proof of superior worth.
Today I want to notice whom I have turned into a category.
The answer may still be firm.
Holiness is not politeness, passivity, or agreement.
It is the truth that keeps correction from becoming dehumanization.
