My mind edits reality before it has finished arriving.
This should be easier. That person should understand. I should not still feel this way.
The argument with what is often creates more suffering than the fact itself.
I remember the washing machine stopping halfway through a load on a day when the laundry actually mattered. Before I checked the outlet or moved the wet clothes, my mind had already begun repeating, “This cannot be happening today.”
Letting things be exactly as they were did not mean approving of the breakdown or leaving the problem untouched.
It meant beginning with the truth: the machine had stopped.
From there, I could move the clothes, check what was practical, and arrange a repair without spending the same energy arguing that this particular day should have been exempt from inconvenience.
Acceptance is not approval or permanence. It is the end of using denial as the starting point for action.
Today I want to notice the fact I keep placing the word *shouldn’t* in front of.
I may still work to change the condition.
But change guided by truth feels different from change driven by refusal.
Letting things be as they are gives love an honest place to begin.
A PRIVATE REFLECTION
What is coming up for you?
Share what you are feeling, noticing, or struggling with. The companion will respond through the lens of this lesson—not as the final truth, but as another way of seeing.
Your words stay in this box until you choose “Reflect with me.” That sends them securely to OpenAI for this response. The Site does not save them. You can download the finished reflection if you want to keep it.
