I usually define a happy outcome before I know what the situation is capable of becoming.

The relationship must continue. The opportunity must work. The answer must be yes.

When the form changes, happiness can seem defeated.

I remember wanting a particular plan to come together and interpreting each obstacle as evidence that something good was being taken away.

Eventually the plan fell through.

What followed was not immediately happy. I was disappointed and needed time to let go of the version I had imagined.

Later, I could see that the ending prevented a commitment I did not truly have the capacity to carry. The outcome made room for a more honest choice.

This lesson does not promise that every story will end in the form I prefer.

It promises that no form can prevent love from giving the experience a useful purpose.

Today I want to notice the outcome I have made responsible for happiness.

I do not have to pretend I would welcome every change.

Trust can begin with admitting that my current imagination is not large enough to identify every way peace might arrive.
