Fear speaks as though danger is happening now.
The body tightens, the mind predicts, and an imagined future enters the room with the force of a present fact.
I remember hearing an unfamiliar sound from the car the day before a long drive. Within minutes, my mind had moved from a possible repair to a cancelled trip, an expensive bill, and several other problems that had not occurred.
I scheduled an inspection and noticed that the practical response took less energy than the imagined future.
In the moment I was actually living, the car was parked, help was available, and I did not yet know what the sound meant.
Fear was turning uncertainty into a completed story.
Love was taking the next responsible step without pretending the ending had already arrived.
This lesson does not tell me never to respond to risk. If action is available and appropriate, love can take it.
Today I want to distinguish the current moment from the future fear has placed inside it.
The answer may not remove uncertainty.
It can remind me that uncertainty and danger are not the same thing.
Fear belongs to a story the mind is telling about time.
Love is available in the moment I am actually living.
