There are moments when I know what I want to say but not what I want the words to accomplish.
I can tell the truth to clarify, or tell the same truth to punish.
The sentence may sound similar. The purpose changes everything.
I remember preparing to address a recurring problem. I had valid concerns, but I also wanted the other person to feel how frustrated I had been.
Part of my planned honesty was an attack with good documentation.
Before speaking, I asked what the conversation was for.
The answer was not to avoid conflict. It was to make correction possible without increasing shame.
I described the pattern, its effect, and what needed to change. I left out the exaggerated phrases that would have made my pain undeniable by making the other person entirely wrong.
The conversation remained difficult. It also remained usable.
Today I want to notice the purpose beneath the words waiting to be spoken.
The Holy Spirit may speak through firmness, silence, humor, apology, or a direct no.
Love is not identified by softness alone.
It is recognized by its refusal to use truth as a weapon.
