The emotional quality I give another person becomes the atmosphere I inhabit.

If I offer suspicion, I must remain watchful. If I offer contempt, I live in a world where worth can be withdrawn.

Love returns differently.

I remember helping someone who was new to a task and moving more slowly than I wanted. I could feel myself preparing to take over.

Instead, I explained one step and gave them time to complete it.

The patience I offered changed my own experience first. My body relaxed. The task stopped feeling like an emergency, and the other person became more comfortable asking a useful question.

What I gave them became my gift to me.

This does not mean every act of giving will be appreciated or returned in form. The person may remain impatient, defensive, or unable to meet me with the same care.

The law works in the mind choosing the gift.

Today I want to notice what I am extending through the way I meet someone.

Love may take the form of patience, honesty, correction, or a boundary delivered without punishment.

Whatever its form, I receive its purpose while I give it.

I cannot offer dignity without remembering that dignity exists.

I cannot make room for another person without discovering more room within myself.
