Uncertainty makes me want a map of the entire future.

I ask for guidance, then become frustrated when I receive only a next step. Surely peace would be easier if I knew where the step was leading.

But I rarely need the whole path in order to act now. I need enough willingness to follow what is clear.

Once, while waiting for an important decision, the only guidance I could recognize was to continue caring for the life already in front of me. Cook dinner. Return the borrowed book. Keep the appointment. None answered the larger question, but each prevented uncertainty from consuming the day.

God’s direction often restores me to the present before it reveals the future.

I can stop demanding a map as proof that I am guided.

This instant contains enough direction for this instant.
