Review of Lessons 153–154

153. In my defenselessness my safety lies. 154. I am among the ministers of God.

God is but Love, and therefore so am I.

Defensiveness can enter a conversation before the other person has finished speaking.

I hear a question and begin preparing my explanation. I notice a change in tone and start proving that my intentions were good. By the time it is my turn to respond, I am no longer serving the relationship. I am protecting an identity.

These review ideas show me another purpose for the moment.

My safety does not lie in controlling how I am seen. I am among God’s ministers, which means the conversation can become a place where love is served rather than where innocence is argued.

I once received feedback that felt less fair than useful. My mind immediately identified everything the other person had overlooked.

Some of my objections were valid.

But beneath them was a frightened demand: do not let this person think I failed.

Defenselessness did not require me to agree with every part of the feedback. It allowed me to listen for the part I could use without making their opinion responsible for my worth.

That small release changed what I could give. I could ask a clear question instead of delivering a defense disguised as clarification.

God is but Love, and therefore so am I.

My ministry in that moment was not to sound spiritual or endlessly receptive. It was to let truth enter without turning either of us into an enemy.

Today I want to notice what I am defending before deciding whether a defense is needed.

I may correct the record, disagree, or set a limit.

I can do it without making attack the price of being understood.
