188. The peace of God is shining in me now.
I am not a body. I am free. For I am still as God created me.
The body can display every sign of unrest while peace remains present.
Hands tremble. Tears come. The heart beats faster. None of those responses proves that God’s peace has left.
I once became emotional during a conversation I had intended to handle calmly. I felt the tears rise and immediately began judging them as evidence that I was losing control.
Trying not to appear affected made it harder to speak clearly.
When I stopped treating the body’s response as a failure, another kind of steadiness became available. I could pause, name that the conversation mattered to me, and continue when I was ready.
The peace of God did not look like composure.
It looked like no longer abandoning myself because the body was expressing emotion.
I am not a body. I am free. The body can move through a wave of feeling without carrying my identity away with it.
Today I want to stop using physical calm as the only evidence of inner peace.
I may breathe, pause, cry, or ask for a moment.
Peace shines through the mercy with which I meet what is happening.
