I can imagine God wanting me to improve more easily than I can imagine Him wanting me to be free.
Improvement makes sense to the part of me that believes love is earned. Freedom feels suspiciously generous.
This lesson places mercy before merit.
God wills that I be saved—not after I understand everything, forgive perfectly, or stop repeating familiar mistakes. His Will does not wait for my performance.
I remember finding myself scrolling late at night after sincerely deciding that sleep needed more protection. When I finally set the phone down, the disappointment quickly became a prediction: apparently I would always do this.
Mercy interrupted the word *always*.
One repeated choice did not close the future. I could look honestly at what led to it, make the next decision differently, and refuse to turn discouragement into destiny.
Mercy is not permission to remain unconscious. It is the condition that makes awareness safe enough to sustain.
Today I want to notice where I believe God is withholding freedom until I become more deserving.
I can participate through willingness, responsibility, and practice.
But I do not create the Love that saves me.
God’s mercy means every failure I use as a locked door can become another place where the door is shown to be open.
