Ruling my mind does not mean controlling every thought that enters it.

If it did, one anxious morning would prove I had lost the kingdom.

It means deciding which thoughts receive authority.

I once noticed a car following closely behind me on a road where I could not safely move faster. My mind immediately supplied a whole person: impatient, aggressive, and somehow personally offended by me.

I could not prevent the interpretation from appearing.

I could decide not to let it rule my body or my driving.

I loosened my grip on the wheel, kept a safe speed, and turned off when the road allowed. The other car continued on, carrying none of the character I had assigned its driver.

No one else can make this choice for me. Reassurance may help, but another person cannot permanently remove a thought I continue crowning as truth.

This responsibility is not blame. It is the return of power.

Today I want to notice the thought currently issuing orders.

I may discover that it contains useful information. I may need to speak, prepare, or protect a boundary.

But I can choose those actions without handing fear the throne.

The mind is ruled through allegiance, not force.

I am free to choose again which teacher I will follow.
