I can make reassurance feel like a basic need.
I want someone to confirm that we are okay, that I made the right choice, or that the future is likely to unfold in the direction I prefer.
The reassurance may help for a while.
Then I need another dose.
I once decided to step back from a responsibility I no longer had the capacity to carry. The decision was honest, but I wanted someone else to certify that it was also kind.
I explained it to one friend, then another, subtly adjusting the details each time. Both reassured me. Neither answer lasted.
I did not need a third opinion.
I needed the truth that another person’s disappointment could not turn an honest limit into a failure of love.
This lesson does not say practical needs are imaginary. Bodies need food, shelter, care, and protection. Relationships need communication and honesty.
It asks me to notice what I believe those forms will establish about me.
Truth says I remain as God created me. No reassurance can improve that fact, and no silence can remove it.
Today I want to identify what I am asking another person or outcome to supply permanently.
I may still ask a clear question and receive support.
But I do not have to make anyone responsible for maintaining the identity God already gave me.
Nothing but truth can satisfy because everything else changes with the next conversation.
