I carry private laws about how people should behave.

If someone cares, they should remember. If they respect me, they should respond quickly. If I have explained myself clearly, they should understand.

These laws feel obvious until another person fails to obey one.

I remember feeling hurt when a friend did not mark an occasion that mattered to me. The disappointment was real, but it quickly became a verdict: caring people remember important dates.

That law reduced the whole relationship to one missed moment.

When I questioned it, I did not have to pretend the occasion was unimportant. I could tell my friend that I had felt forgotten and listen to what had happened on their side.

The law had offered certainty about who they were. Releasing it made room for a conversation.

I bind another person whenever I define their worth through a rule God did not create. I bind myself the same way when I decide that good people never forget, struggle, disappoint, or need correction.

Today I want to notice the word *should* inside one grievance.

Standards and agreements still matter. Relationships need reliability and repair.

But a useful expectation does not have to become a spiritual sentence.

God’s Son is not contained by my rulebook.

Neither am I.

A PRIVATE REFLECTION

What is coming up for you?

Share what you are feeling, noticing, or struggling with. The companion will respond through the lens of this lesson—not as the final truth, but as another way of seeing.

Your words stay in this box until you choose “Reflect with me.” That sends them securely to OpenAI for this response. The Site does not save them. You can download the finished reflection if you want to keep it.
