I do not always recognize a gift when it arrives through someone else’s good fortune.

Their success can feel separate from me, or worse, like evidence that I have fallen behind.

Comparison turns another person’s gift into a measurement of what I lack.

I remember hearing that someone had reached a milestone I wanted for myself. I was happy for them, but the happiness was quickly followed by a private inventory of everything I had not accomplished.

Their news had become a judgment because I believed good was scarce.

When I let the comparison settle, I could see what their success also offered me. It showed that the path was possible. Their experience contained information, encouragement, and a chance to practice generosity without abandoning my own desire.

The gift did not need to take the same form in my life in order to belong to me.

Every expression of patience, courage, healing, or joy strengthens the recognition that these qualities are available within our shared Self.

Today I want to notice where another person’s good has made me feel smaller.

I may receive inspiration, practical wisdom, renewed hope, or the freedom to celebrate without turning celebration into self-evaluation.

This does not require denying envy. Envy can show me what I desire and where I still believe love is limited.

But scarcity is not the only way to read another person’s life.

What love gives through one of us belongs to all of us because its source is shared.

Their light does not leave me in darkness.

It reminds me what light can do.
