The ego hears *second place* as humiliation.

It imagines being overlooked, losing authority, or allowing someone else to win.

But this lesson is not asking me to become less important than another person. It is asking me to stop placing my separate judgment ahead of God’s.

I remember entering a conversation determined to explain why my decision had been reasonable. The other person was hurt, and I feared that listening fully would make me guilty or require me to reverse everything.

I kept preparing my response while they spoke.

Choosing the second place meant allowing understanding to come before self-defense.

I listened long enough to hear that they were not asking me to deny my reasons. They wanted me to recognize an effect I had not intended.

That recognition did not erase my perspective. It made the conversation large enough to hold both.

When my separate self insists on first place, it must protect its version of reality at all costs.

God’s first place does not diminish me. It releases me from having to be the sole authority.

Today I want to notice where I am treating listening as defeat.

I can still disagree, correct a false claim, or maintain a decision.

Second place is not submission to another person’s ego.

It is willingness to let truth lead before defense decides what truth is allowed to say.

In giving up the first position, I gain the peace that was never available there.
